Alex and Davide Present at IET WSS 201219th June 2012
Today Alex and Davide presented their research at the IET conference on Wireless Sensing Systems (WSS). Alex's presentation was recorded, and his slides and a video of the presentation can be watched on the IET website by clicking here.
Alex presenting his research at IET WSS 2012
Alex's paper was on the topic of "Adaptive Sampling in Context-Aware Systems: A Machine Learning Approach", and is a method he is researching to attempt to maximise the usefullness of images captured by the DejaView system, while minimising energy consumption.
Davide also presented his research on the "Design and Comparative Analysis of Single-path and Epidemic Approaches to Information and Energy Management in Wireless Sensor Networks".
ECS to Host UK-ESF Summer School 201413th May 2013
In July 2014, ECS at the University of Southampton will be hosting the UK-Electronics Skills Foundation's (UK-ESF) annual summer school. The course will be delivered in partnership HeadStart and with contributions from the UK-ESF's University Partners. As the University of Southampton's representative/coordinator for the UKESF, I am responsible for planning and running this exciting course, supported by our excellent ECS Lab Manager and Outreach coordinator. Watch this space!

Stuart's Internship on Energy Harvesting30th September 2011
This summer, one of our undergraduate electronic engineering students, Stuart Barrow, worked with me for three months on the pioneering EPSRC-funded project on "Next Generation Energy-Harvesting Electronics - A Holistic Approach". Stuart developed an ultra low-power system that analyses vibrations and transmits them wirelessly. The photo shows Stuart testing his system on a car engine - the hardware on the engine is detecting vibrations, processing them, and transmitting them wirelessly to a lap... [more]
